NCERT READING: 16- 20 Marks in JEE 2024 PHYSICS.
As seen from the previous trend, the weightage of theoretical questions in JEE MAINS Physics section has increased. In the last two years, 2022 and 2023, compiling the data of all the shifts, on an average about 4-5 theoretical questions were asked in each shift in Physics which accounts for about 16- 20 crucial marks.
These 4-5 questions can be much important for those who are aiming for a high or full score and also for those who find trouble in calculations and numerical problems to get easy marks.
These theoretical questions being asked can be categorized in two types:
1- Concept Based: These questions involve more of concept clarity than NCERT Reading. If one is completely clear with formulas, their base concepts and has good reading skills can easily solve these sort of problems.
2- Fact Based: These questions compulsorily require thorough NCERT Reading as questions are directly framed from NCERT facts, tables, charts and diagrams.
CONCEPT BASED Questions are generally framed on the fundamental concepts and tests one's grip over these concepts. Generally Statement Based, Assertion- Reason type questions are being framed from this variety of questions.
FACTS BASED Questions are framed on facts given in NCERT. So, having a reading of NCERT of those chapters from which such questions are framed is necessary.
Data Analysis: Studying the papers from 2021-23 it is evident that about 25% of total theoretical questions have been asked from 11th and rest 75% from Class 12th syllabus.

This data gives oneself a better insight that which chapter theory is more important than others.
The analysis also shows up that theoretical questions from 11th standard are mostly concept based while in case of 12th it is mostly factual ( more than 60% of theoretical questions from 12th are fact based).
So, here is the list of chapters for which one should Must read NCERT to answer the factual, table, plot based questions :
- Modern Physics
- EM Waves
- Semiconductors
- Thermodynamics & KTG
- Communication
- Electrostatics
- Moving Charges & MEC - Focus on Earth Magnetism and Magnetism of Substance.
- Ray Optics
- EMI
- Units, Dimensions & Errors.
