HOW TO SCORE 80+ in Physics in JEE MAINS

HOW TO SCORE 80+ in Physics in JEE MAINS- 2024?

As the dates of JEE MAINS 2024 are released, the preparation level of students get higher. So, this post is focusing on What One should do in order to get 80+ in Physics in JEE Mains.

So first of all the question arises is that is it possible for one to score 80+ in such less span of time. So, the answer is yes, if you have certain basics clear and will dedicatedly work hard.

Scoring 80+ in Physics has never been so easier, as has been from the last two years. The level of paper has never been so easier as it has started to come in last two years. Predicting from the past two years trend, the questions being asked are directly formula based and straightforward.

One can not completely rely on the previous trend as level can change but such an abrupt change is not observed generally. So, keeping in mind the going on trend JEE Physics in its difficulty level is inclining toward NEET level. Questions being asked requires formulas remembrance, calculation skills and a little of conceptual clarity too for factual questions.

So here is a statistical analysis of previous trends and tips based on it that one has to follow to a good score in JEE Mains 2024 Physics:

One should follow the chapters and units in the order keeping in mind time required, toughness level, marks distribution. Following are the Chapter-wise tips for one to follow to get a score of 80+ in Physics in JEE Mains:

ELECTROMAGNETISM:  About 27% of weightage of the whole physics section is taken up by this unit. The unit comprises of the following chapters:

  • Electric field (Electrostatics)
  • Electric Potential and Capacitance
  •  Current electricity
  • Magnetic Effects of Current
  • Electromagnetic Induction
  • Electromagnetic Waves
  • Alternating Current
The unit of electromagnetism is completely diverse and many good (advanced) level of problems can be framed from it. So, now in this peak time one has to avoid touching Advanced level questions being framed and asked in this unit. Instead one has to try investing more time on problem solving and revision.
The unit contains a hefty amount of weightage but one should not keep getting perfection in it. Instead revise theory, have a basic conceptual clarity, solve basic level questions and then to analyse and to get a feel of level, solve PYQs ( recent, i.e. 2019-2023)

NOTE:  This is a must to do unit as it comprises more than quarter of whole of the physics. However it is a much lengthy unit so one can leave some lesser important chapters (if time does not allow to complete it), but try to have basic knowledge and formulas of each chapter in mind.
PLUS POINT:  As this unit comprises of half of the syllabus of class 12th NCERT syllabus, so for freshers it is a good unit to target as they have maximum of their content in mind.

MECHANICS:  The beginning of JEE Preparation for Physics starts with Mechanics. Mechanics is also an important unit with about 30-35% average in Physics section of paper. It consist of some easy and some relatively long chapters. So one has to widely choose among these chapters and prioritize them according to their toughness level and marks distribution.
The unit comprises of the following chapters:
  • Units and Dimension
  • Motion in one dimension
  • Motions in Two dimensions
  • Laws of Motion
  • Work, Power and Energy
  • Centre of Mass, Momentum and collision
  • Rotational Motion
  • Gravitation
  • Mechanical Properties of solids
  • Mechanical Properties of fluids.
One has to focus first on easy chapters like Units and Dimensions, Motion in 1-d and 2-d, Work Power Energy, Gravitation, Centre of Mass, Momentum and Collision, and then should head towards tough and lengthy chapters like Rotational Motion, Laws of motion, if time persist.

NOTE: Do not waste time in getting tough concepts now in such a crucial time. Do not try to reach advanced level, but try to learn each and every formulas, basic concepts and solve PYQs.
Do not overspend time on few chapters only, as it might results you to even loose easy marks.
Do get a basic feel of every chapter. Remember its formulas and have a view over Previous Year Questions asked from it.  (Not leave any chapter completely as easy questions can be asked from it, but try avoiding getting tough and lengthy concepts)

PLUS POINT: Check NCERT Tables, in Chapter and book exercises.
Do refer NCERT at least once, must for chapters like Units and Dimensions, Mechanical Properties of solids and fluids.

THERMODYNAMICS: It is a much smaller unit with a small weightage of only 8% as per the going on trend. Questions being asked are direct and easy too.
Includes the following chapters:
  • Thermal Properties of Matter
  • Thermodynamics
  • Kinetic Theory of Gases.
NOTE: It is a scoring unit as now easy questions are framed of it. So, basic understanding of unit is enough. Avoid solving lengthy problems as it may take a lot of your time.
Since it is a unit with small weightage, one should try to cover the unit in much less time as possible.

MODERN PHYSICS & OPTICS:  It is one of the most productive unit in Physics. It is a less input more output type of input, where marks obtained is much higher than proportional time and hard work investment. With about 16% of weightage in Physics section, it is one of the important unit comprising of following chapters:
  • Ray Optics
  • Wave Optics
  • Dual Nature of Matter
  • Nuclear Physics
  • Atomic Physics
NOTE: This unit is one of the most important unit that one should compulsory do during this time. The unit is small and can even be covered now, if not studied before. Questions asked from this unit are one of the easiest questions to be asked in paper. The unit requires basic understanding of concepts and solving of easy level questions.
PYQs from 2019- 2023 will be a complete set of problems to handle this unit

PLUS POINT: Do read NCERT for these chapters.

ELECTRONICS & OSCILLATIONS: One should cover them up if rest all of the section has been covered. Questions asked from these chapters can be sometimes complex.
Chapters like electronics can be felt tough by some students,. because of their complex theory. So, one finding difficulty in these concepts, should not focus much now on these topics.
One should prefer NCERT reading and remembering basic formulas, rather than going deep inside its concepts. Since the Semiconductor chapter is not even in JEE ADVANCED syllabus.

FINAL PIECE OF ADVICE:   Even though perfection and getting complete feel of concepts is the best way to study and excel in exams , but now the time does not allow one to do so.
Do not run for perfection now. In this period, "Time is more important than achieving Perfection."
"Revise and remember formulas" as questions asked from the last two years are directly formula based.
"Focus More on Problems Solving" rather than reading theory, as it would improve one's calculation, accuracy, speed of solving.
"Solve Previous Year Questions" - in a sequential order from 2019- 2023. Feels one confident and also make one realize the type and level of questions being asked in exams.
"Remember the fact that Scoring in Physics has been much easier than scoring same in Maths."
So, try understanding the fact that net JEE score is responsible for final rank in MAINS. So, instead on focusing and  spending a lot time over one subject, It is beneficial to work on the field where fetching marks is much easier comparatively.
Do Not Take Stress for Exam. As exams come close, one should increase his mental piece rather than getting stressed as it would reduce his/her potential. Have walk, Do Physical exercises to feel free whenever required, but do not waste time.
