HIGH WEIGHTAGE CHAPTERS IN JEE MAINS MATHEMATICS

JUST SOLVE THESE CHAPTERS TO TARGET 99%ile+ in JEE MAINS.

MATHEMATICS:

The level of Mathematics in JEE MAINS has now been increasing from last 2-3 years as compared to previous years. The weightage of moderate and tough level questions has now been increased and so is the level of difficult level of mathematics section in exam. Questions are framed with more than one concepts, usage of tricky manipulations, lengthy calculations and solving.

But this difficulty level is increased for everyone, so the marks one has to score a percentile over 99 has also decreased.

If we analyze data of 2022 and 2023 Mains as reference, the average marks to get 99.5 %ile in Mathematics is 60/100, while to get above 99%ile is 50 marks. This marks figure reduces more for lesser percentile. The analytical data has been posted below:

(This Data has been taken from JEE NEXUS channel's Youtube video)

And getting these 50-60 marks is not a big deal. If one strengthen some of the high weightage chapters to its fullest, then he/she will surely be able to secure such a score.

So these are some of the high weightage chapters one has to focus to secure good score in JEE MAINS Mathematics section:

  • Determinants and Matrices
  • 3-D Geometry
  • Sets, Relations and Functions
  • Sequences and series
  • Conic Sections
  • Definite Integration
  •  Application of Derivatives
  • Binomial Theorem
  •  Vectors
  • Differential Equations
  •  Continuity, Differentiability and Differentiation.
The weightage of these chapters in total was about 62% of the whole Mathematics Section in JEE Mains 2023.

So, one if focus only on these chapters and prepare them completely will surely achieve 99%ile+.

BUT IS THIS FACT TRUE?

Not completely. Since, the questions in Mathematics being asked are interlinked. So, before jumping on important topics or chapters one has to also focus on base concepts of these chapters, which can be easily done in 2 months.

Other topics to be Focused :

  • Various standard functions in Mathematics- e.g. modulus function, greatest integer function, logarithmic function, trigonometric functions, inverse trigonometric functions, etc. should be known. One should has a good information about these functions, their graphs, domain, range, etc. as questions are made involving these functions to increase their level.
  • Basics of each chapter: One should have knowledge about basics of each chapter to jump over these important topics. For example:
1- Indefinite integration rules and method of approach is a pre- requisite, to handle most of questions of Definite Integrals and Differential Equation that are being asked in Exam.
2- Application of Derivatives require knowledge of Basic Differentiation, product rule, division rule, chain rule, etc.
3- 3-d Geometry requires the basics of Vector Algebra.
4- However some Chapters like Sequence and Series, Binomial functions, Determinant and Matrices, etc. are independent chapters and do not require a pre requisite knowledge of other chapters a lot. So, one can head over them to cover in short span of time.
  • Also some easy chapters like Mathematical Reasoning and Statistics, should be prepared well few days before exam to score the easy marks and improve net score.
  • Focus on calculations and try to solve lengthy questions, as nowadays even easy concept questions are made tough by giving lengthy solving and calculation
  • Solve PYQs, and practice more problems alongwith concept study as this will make you to improve your calculation, alongwith time management.

See, the task is difficult but not impossible, but one has to work hard enough to compete and beat many others aspiring in the competition. Scoring 60 marks + is not tough task but requires a lot of practice, faster and accurate calculation skills following proper strategy.

If one studies this much chapter, focus the basics required, improve his/her calculation skills, then he/she  can easily score above 99%ile +.

So, work hard dedicatedly and fight till last day, you will surely succeed.
