Importance of PYQs for Competitive Exams.
Previous Year Questions are a must to solve to get prepared for any exam whether it is a school exam, board exam , college exam or even Competitive exams and it is our tendency to have a look on them before exam to have a taste of questions that has been previously asked.
The importance of PYQs become more significant when it's time to prepare for exams like JEE or NEET as you can get a complete overview of questions to be asked in these exams by solving PYQs.
Importance of PYQs :
Previous Year Questions can be set as a reference about the level, type and variety of questions being asked in these exams. These questions try to help one to get the basic idea and knowledge that "How to prepare?".
PYQs solving and analysis, helps in determining important chapters from where more questions can be expected as the trend changes gradually, not drastically.
From PYQs, one can analyse that from which section easy and doable questions are being framed, which chapter requires more of conceptual clarity, which section ask calculation based questions, what is the % marks distribution from different chapters , etc. It gives a complete framework of exam based on previous year trend.

There can be various ways in which one can use previous year questions effectively to get a good score in JEE or NEET. Some of which are following:
1. Solving Past year papers as mock test: Previous year papers as mock test shows the actual level of one's preparation. It gives you the accurate measure of level of paper to be solved under a time bound situation. These papers can be helpful only, if you have not solved the previous year questions separately before.2. Individual chapter PYQ solving: One can also switch to solving PYQs of each chapter after covering its theory to get the measure of level of questions being asked, so as to prepare accordingly. This practice also helps one to find flaw (if any) in his/her preparation. One can mark important topics, theories and can also solve some important (having tricks) in his/her notes.
From where to solve: This is the doubt many of aspirants get, from which book they have to solve these previous year questions. So, the answer is for JEE Mains and NEET you can prefer any reliable online source or previous year paper book (for individual solving) while for solving as a mock you can refer some of reliable online sources to download the unsolved papers as pdf.
